This volume considers Freud's psychoanalytic work alongside social and medical practices in the late 19th century, exploring the role of women and femininity in relation to Freud's self-analysis. Drawing on his work with Emma Eckstein, as well as comparing and contrasting it with the theory and practice of Sandor Ferenczi, a prominent Hungarian psychoanalyst known for his belief in the truthfulness of clients reporting sexual abuse in childhood, the book provides an original and important perspective for the field.
