In contrast to the plethora of publications focusing on femininity and psychoanalysis, publications on the analysis of masculine issues are rare. This book redresses the imbalance. It focuses on masculinity as it is inscribed in the language of psychoanalysis, particularly the Freudian exploration of the Oedipal Conflict, and in the practice of psychotherapy. Individual chapters address the historical positioning of the male psyche as well as the various contemporary debates that can be brought to bear on what it is to be male.
