Venue:Zoom
Date:16/03/2024
Duration:10:30am - 1pm GMT / 6:30am - 9am EDT
Extra Info:Speaker: Karen Proner

Karen will describe Meltzer’s understanding of the earliest days of the infant’s life with his mother and what Meltzer calls ‘the aesthetic conflict’. The mother’s capacity to help her infant negotiate this challenge is essential for the development of her child’s mental health. Karen will explore how our work with individuals, families and couples can be deepened by using Meltzer’s ideas.

Karen Proner qualified as a psychologist in Boston. She was a staff member at the Anna Freud Centre in the days of Anna Freud. After training at the Tavistock in both child and adult psychoanalytic psychotherapy, she returned to the US and became a member of the International Association for Psychoanalysis. She has served on IPA committees, most notably the committee for psychoanalysis and health where she has helped to create podcasts exploring clinical work across the life-span.
Now based back in Britain she continues to have a private practice and to teach internationally, notably in China and Italy and South Africa where she has been training groups of child and adult psychotherapists.
