| Extra Info | : | Speaker: Judy K. Eekhoff Emotions are the symphony of life. They are the invisible and mysterious link between soma and psyche as well as between self and other. Emotions create harmony amongst the sights, sounds, and sensations of experience. They link us with each other. They unite imagination with reality. Beauty and truth are inseparable in the symphony. Remembering that communication is largely unconscious and always arises from our emotional primordial selves supports Ferenczi’s and Bion’s understanding and ours: we need at least two people in intimate communication to discover truth. The joint experience cannot be teased apart into you are speaking truth and trust that I am not lying. Rather truth or lie emerges in the emotional relationship between two or more people. Further, emotions are the link between the body and the mind, serving as they do to promote symbolization. They are also the link intersubjectively between two subjects and between subject and object. The symphony of life is in the beauty of the world and the emotional atmosphere engendered in relationship. The emotional capacity for passion: to truly love, hate or know another person is to register their individuality with our hearts and bodies. |
