Extra Info | : | Speaker: Professor Julia Buckroyd his one-day workshop will focus on working therapeutically with adults who have experienced an up-bringing with a parent who displayed narcissistic behaviours. Narcissism is a word generally used as an insult, but it describes a tendency in all of us which we probably spend most of our lives trying to modify and civilise so that we can live and work productively with other people. Those people who have very strong narcissistic traits often create enormous problems of psychological development for their children and it’s the children who present as clients to therapists. This workshop first of all clarifies the genesis of narcissism and describes its different forms. It continues to describe the risks to the child’s development of having a narcissistic parent and it then offers strategies for working with this client group. Participants should be aware that they will be expected to share their own experience of this sort of person, both personally and professionally and to contribute to an active and interactive workshop. |
