This conference offers a deep exploration into the therapist's countertransference as a vital tool for understanding and working with the unconscious dynamics of couples and families. The unique focus lies in addressing how social, cultural, and political contexts shape and influence the couple and the therapeutic process.

In this century, powerful events such as wars, political upheavals, and economic crises are unfolding around the world, directly impacting international and national realms, as well as the family, marital, and personal domains. These crises penetrate and provoke turmoil in the familial, relational, and personal spheres, instilling chaos in conscious and unconscious structures. Furthermore, as a result, one of the symbolic “walls of the clinic” that establishes a safe place for our patients is crumbling. External realities invade not only the personal, couple and family dynamics but also the analyst, and the therapeutic space.

The programme includes leading psychoanalytic thinkers and clinicians presenting from around the globe and will be chaired by Andrew Balfour, CEO of Tavistock Relationships and Hanni Mann-Shalvi, Chair of the Anglo Scientific Committee of the IACFP. Each day will begin with keynote talks from  Jill Scharff & David Scharff, Mary Morgan and Ana Maria Nicolò. As well as two panel sessions with speakers offering short twenty minute talks each. There will be time for discussion and reflection.
